Connect an AI assistant (MCP)

Let Claude, ChatGPT or Claude Code convert files with your convertere credits.

convertere runs a remote Model Context Protocol server, so an AI assistant can convert files, check jobs and read your credit balance for you.

https://convertere.io/api/mcp

The server uses Streamable HTTP. Every connection is bound to one team, and conversions spend that team's credits.

What the assistant can do

ToolWhat it doesCosts credits
convert_fileConverts a file from a public HTTPS link to another format. Starts a job.Yes
get_job_statusReturns the status of one of your team's jobs, with a download link once it is done.No
list_jobsLists your team's recent jobs, newest first.No
list_presetsLists your team's saved presets.No
list_formatsLists the supported conversions, optionally filtered. No
get_creditsReturns your team's credit balance.No
create_upload_urlGives an assistant with shell access a temporary upload URL for a local file.No

The assistant cannot cancel or delete jobs, create presets, buy credits, or manage keys and webhooks.

convert_file returns an estimate of the credits it reserves. The final charge is reported by get_job_status once the job has finished.

Connect Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Enter https://convertere.io/api/mcp as the URL.
  3. Sign in to convertere, pick a team and approve access.

Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Create a connector and paste https://convertere.io/api/mcp.
  3. Sign in to convertere and approve access.

Menu names and availability depend on your plan and app version.

Sign-in connectors (Claude and ChatGPT above) only work once sign-in is enabled for convertere. If the connector cannot sign in, connect with an API key instead, as below.

Connect Claude Code

Claude Code connects with an API key. Create a live key under Dashboard > Settings > API Keys, then run:

claude mcp add --transport http convertere https://convertere.io/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer cvio_live_..."

The key belongs to one team, so the assistant works with that team's jobs, presets and credits. Any other client that can send an Authorization: Bearer header works the same way.

Things you can ask

  • "Convert https://example.com/report.pdf to docx."
  • "Which formats can I convert a PNG to?"
  • "What is the status of my last conversion?"
  • "How many credits does my team have left?"

Files and privacy

  • Source files are deleted right after the conversion finishes.
  • Results are deleted 24 hours after the job finishes, so download them within that time.
  • Keep API keys secret. Anyone with a key can spend your team's credits.
  • You can revoke a connected app at any time under Dashboard > Settings > Integrations.
